Are you an Australian BAS services provider? If so you’ll be affected by the new Tax Agent Services law that came in from March 1, 2010.
Amongst other things, the new law establishes a National Tax Practitioners Board which will regulate tax agents and, for the first time, those providing BAS services. This means anyone providing BAS services for a fee or reward must now be registered to operate.
Want more info? Visit the Tax Practitioners Board website: www.tpb.gov.au to read more about the new law and who needs to be registered.
Other benefits of the new law include:
- a code of professional conduct; and
- the introduction of safe harbours in certain circumstances where taxpayers engage a tax agent or BAS agent.
