About Lyn Prowse-Bishop:

In 1985, after graduating DUX from the Metropolitan Business College with a shorthand speed of 120 words per minute, Lyn Prowse-Bishop was being encouraged into a life as a Court Reporter, but opted for 7½ years as, first, a Legal Secretary, and later as PA to a criminal lawyer in East Sydney.  In 1993 she moved to Brisbane where she secured a job as Executive Assistant to the GM of the Brisbane Convention & Exhibition Centre.  6½ years later her entrepreneurial spirit took over and, motivated by the birth of her daughter, started a Virtual Assistant practice in February 2000 to utilise her skills in a home-based environment so that she could meet the needs of her new baby.

In 2006 Lyn founded the Australian Virtual Business Network when she identified a need in the VA industry in Australia for clients to have access to prequalified and checked virtual business operators. The prequalification process for business owners is stringent including business checks, skills testing and reference checking. See what one applicant has to say here.

Through the network Lyn ran online training via webinars for the industry and small business owners for three years when in 2010 she switched format to become host of Australia’s first-ever internet radio show/podcast for the industry: The Virtual Business Show.

She is a founding steering committee member of the Online International VA Convention and serves as Australian representative on two international boards looking at standards and certification for the VA industry. From 2010 she served for two years as Queensland and VA industry representative on the board of Independent Contractors Australia, and in 2011 she was asked to chair the steering committee of the Australian Chapter of the Alliance for Virtual Businesses and has been instrumental in driving the chapter’s formation and ongoing activities with the help of a dedicated committee of Australian VAs.

In mid-2008 Lyn made a ‘tree change’ with her family to Queensland’s Darling Downs, and the online nature of her business allowed the shift with no downtime for clients.

Lyn’s certifications and awards include:

  • Master Virtual Assistant (MVA)
  • Professional Virtual Authors Assistant (PVAA)
  • Certified Australian Virtual Business (CAVB)
  • Accredited Secretary Online (ASO)
  • VACertified
  • EthicsChecked VA
  • 2008 Australian Achiever Award – Highly Recommended
  • 2007 Business Achiever’s Award Winner – Professional Services
  • 2006 Thomas Leonard International VA of Distinction Award Nominee
