I guess service died with the death of ‘service stations’ which are now ‘petrol stations’ – when I was a child I remember you never filled your own car. A service station attendant was always on hand to do that for you and while the tank was filling they’d wash down your windscreen as well. [...]

I was interested to read recently that my local Council officers had recommended the Council make use of Facebook and Twitter. Great idea, until I read that councillors wanted to ensure no one could comment on the posts and the communications officer assured them they’d be used only to direct users to the Council’s website.
